Comic Con Ibadan, Nexal Gaming, Seals Cup Committee Holds Press Conference Ahead of Synergy 2025

The organizers of the foremost full-blown esports competition and animation/comic exhibitions held a press conference to inform the student populace of the University of Ibadan about the coming Synergy 2025,a grand event that brings together the E-sport competition of the ongoing Seals interdepartmental competition, and a comics and animation exhibitions fare. The conference was held at the SRC chamber, Kunle Adepeju Building between 11am and 1pm.
The UI’SU Sports Secretary, Mr. Kolawole Victor, started the briefing by explaining the details of the Eports gaming competition of the Seals Cup. He stated that the registration for the competition has begun, open to every UIte, and the registration closes on the 6th of June. It is going to be an individual based competition but each participant will register under the emblem of their departments through their respective Sport Direcors. The first phase of the competition is scheduled to be a qualifier, where each participant will be competing with other participants from the same department or other departments under the same faculties. The best players from this stage per faculty emerge and will be representing their faculties at the grand-finale of the competition.
The competition will feature five different games including E-Football, Call of Duty (CoD Mobile), online chess, Free Fire and EAFC, making four mobile titles and one console game. The qualifiers will be happening for 3 days; June 10, 11, and 12, 2025, with each day allotted for different faculties, and will be happening at the Dome of the Sultan Bello Hall. The Faculty winners for each game title will battle for the ultimate glory at the grand-finale, on the 14th of June, 2025, at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan. “There are no limits to the number of participants from each department. There will be 5 ultimate winners each walking home with a cash prize of 150,000 Naira, which makes a total of 750,000 Naira up for grabs,” the Sports Secretary said.
Another big happening for the Grand-Finale as confirmed by the Media and Publicity Lead of the Comic Con Ibadan, Mr Williams Owoeye, is the comic exhibitions from different comic studios like Comic Republic, Ella Studios and others. Networking sessions are also available for animation enthusiasts, artists and game developers, as different grand personalities will be available for the day. There will also be award presentations, different talent performances and raffle draws with exciting rewards available for win. The Convener of the Comic Con Ibadan also mentioned that there are 2 slots for a 3-month residency program for animators at the VX Animations in Lagos. “This event will be the first of its kind in the whole of Oyo State, particularly with the infusion of gaming and animations. The event is not only aimed at bringing together the lovers of animations and gaming, it will also be a platform that provides opportunities for talents and creatives in the industries of animation and gaming,” Mr. Adedayo Erioluwa, Comic Con Ibadan Convener, said. The event will be free for UItes as they will be given a coupon code for 100% discount in a rally that is being planned to hold soon. However, the registration fee for participants that are not students of UI will be 1,500 Naira.
Comic Con Ibadan is a geek and pop culture convention held in Ibadan, Nigeria, recognized as the first and official event of its kind in West Africa’s largest city. It celebrates African comics, animations, games, cosplay, VR, AR, movies, and other creative content, with a focus on showcasing and promoting Nigerian and African talent at the grassroots level on a global stage. There were also calls for Student Campus Ambassadors in the University of Ibadan.
