Clinical Sciences out as Dove Haven Foundation, TLDS Hold Inter-Faculty Cancer Quiz Prelims

The Dove-Haven Foundation, a non-governmental organization charged with reducing cancer threat,, in conjunction with The Literary and Debate Society, University of Ibadan, held the preliminary stages of   the “What Do You Know About Cancer?” Inter-Faculty Quiz on Tuesday, 6th August, 2024, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Auditorium, University of Ibadan. 

The competition was aimed at promoting knowledge of the ever spreading disease group, together with actions to reduce its prevalence. It’s one of several activities to mark the fifth-year anniversary of the Foundation. 

The Preliminary round began after the opening address by  Dr. Samuel Ekundayo, the Executive Director of the Dove-Haven Foundation.  A pair of representatives from sixteen of the seventeen faculties of the university, excluding the Faculty of Dentistry, were pitted against each other as they battled for a spot in the next round. The pairings were as follows: Law VS Art, Education VS Agriculture, Pharmacy VS Veterinary Medicine, Clinical Sciences VS Renewable Natural resources , Science VS Environmental Design and Management, Basic Medical Sciences VS  Public Health, Technology VS Social Sciences, and Nursing VS Economics.

After the rounds of quizzes, the Faculties of Law, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Renewable and Natural Resources, Environmental Design and Management, Basic Medical Sciences, Technology and Economics progressed to the next round, with the Faculty of Economics amassing the highest points, 70. However, there were slight controversies with regard to the answers in certain sections. 

Following a second address from Dr. Ekundayo, Professor M.O Oyeyemi of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine gave the closing remarks to draw the event to a close. 

The final round is scheduled to hold on Thursday 8th of August, 2024 at the same venue by 10 AM.
