According to an announcement made by the Literary and Debating Society, UI, Staff Adviser, Dr. Demola Lewis, at the ongoing Jaw War: Rise of Legends Hall Quarter-Finals, the Alexander Brown Hall, and Faculties of Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, and Pharmacy constituencies have been suspended from the next two editions of Jaw War.
Consequently, all members of these constituencies are also suspended from debating at the competition. Dr Demola further added that the Senators representing these constituencies will ‘have a voice’ but no vote on TLDS Senate floor and that if these constituencies choose to participate in future editions, fines of 10,000 Naira will have to be paid.
This suspension appears to be a follow-up to the release by TLDS UI on Thursday, 28th November 2024, in response to the ABH L&D (Including Clinical Sciences and Dentistry) pulling out of the current edition and all future editions of Jaw War. In the release, it was stated that “Failures of the Faculties of Dentistry and Clinical Sciences to participate in the faculty category of the competition scheduled to hold today [28th November] will not be without consequences to those constituencies and the Alexander Brown Hall, respectively”.
The Faculty of Pharmacy had also pulled out of the preliminary stage of the Faculty preliminaries on December 3rd 2024, citing the clash in arguments with their opponents, Veterinary Medicine, and TLDS UI’s not resolving the matter satisfactorily, as demanded in a public statement sent out earlier in the day, as reasons for their withdrawal.
The ABH L&D declined giving any comments when contacted by the Press.
