David Oluwadamilare Alabi Declared CBN Governor-Elect Following Dramatic Election Reversal

In a stunning turn of events, Mr. David Alabi has been declared the Governor-Elect of the CBN Lecture Theatre, University of Ibadan, after a turbulent electoral process that saw all four gubernatorial candidates initially disqualified.

The disqualification came after the candidates were found to have violated a key electoral rule by campaigning on the morning of the election, an act prohibited under the electoral guidelines. Following the disqualifications, the CBN Electoral Committee announced plans to conduct a bye-election.

However, in a surprising twist, a memo released on the evening of Thursday, May 8, 2026 declared Mr. David Alabi — who had secured a total of 460 votes — as the duly elected Governor-Elect, after the Electoral Committee concluded its review process and applied the approved electoral penalties.

The declaration, e-signed by Oluwafunmilayo Iyanuoluwa (IMMACULATE), the Chairperson of the CBN Electoral Committee 2026, confirmed that David Alabi had satisfied all constitutional and electoral requirements for the office.

The Electoral Committee, the Dean of Students, the Sub-Dean of Biological and Earth Science, and the Faculty of Science collectively wished the elected candidates a successful tenure.
