63rd UIMSA Health Week Inter-Class Debate: 2k23 & 2k27 Knocked Out at Preliminaries

The preliminary stage of the 63rd UIMSA Health Week Inter-class Debate Competition occurred on May 31, 2025 at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, between 3 PM and 6 PM.

Six classes were represented in the following competing pairs: 2k24 vs 2k21, 2k23 vs 2k26, and 2k27 vs 2k25. Moboluwarin Ogunleye and John Eriomala represented the 2k24 class; Precious Idiaye and Oluwapelumi Akin-Ajani represented the 2k21 class; Osisiogu Oyinye and Ibrahim Aisha represented the 2k23 class; Princess Nwaobi and Benedict Ugor represented the 2k26 class; Obodoechie Gloria and Nasiru Emmanuel represented the 2k27 class; and Wojuade Afeezah and Ayegboyin Elizabeth represented the 2k25 class.

After an intense debate, the 2k24, 2k26, and 2k25 classes emerged as winners of the competing pairs, with the 2k21 class narrowly qualifying as the best losers.

John Eriomala shared his winning experience saying, “I’m as glad as I can be. It wasn’t so easy prepping for that round due to changing schedules and a lot of other factors. But we scaled through, thankfully. For the finals, we just want to have fun. Winning back-to-back would be great, but mostly, we want to have a good time debating.”

The finals is set to hold on the 11th of June. The question left on everyone’s lips is “Who will emerge winner?”

Note that the preliminary was a presidential debate style, while the finals will be in British Parliamentary Style.
